Only if I'm cruising for a coffee, or to a mates place, in suburbia, as you say wildlife are a big risk once you get on the open road

RE: Anyone like to ride at night?
My eyesight is crap at night with oncoming traffic so I am OK on well lit roads but a lot of our duel carriageways and motorways are not lit and if at all possible I try and get home before dark. I have tried amber glasses and similar things but am not that happy after dark and outside of the city.

RE: Anyone like to ride at night?
I used to ride at night with a group of mates for, as jmck puts it cruisin' for a coffee, other than that I have only ridden at night about 3 times in the past 3 years. Way too many huge hairy jumping animals in my part of the world who have no road sense whatsoever! Some of them are bigger than the bike and can cause a massive hurt if they hit you or you them!

Re: Anyone like to ride at night?
I generally don't drive at night due to glare, but thats in the car. I personally don't mind riding the bike at night as around here there are less knuckle heads on the road unless it's close to last call.

Re: Anyone like to ride at night?
I been riding for over 20 years and never gave riding at night a second thought til now......7 months ago I was riding in Florida at night....ol lady on back, when we hit a deer at 60mph. Broke both my legs and she had road rash on left side and arm. So now riding at night is something I'm having trouble with.

I ride at night during the season. I'm stationed in up state NY so I go do PT before the sun comes up and don't get off till the sun goes down. I try and keep my speed below 50 so if I hit something in not hauling ass.

RE: Anyone like to ride at night?
When it's work related, and I'm forced to, yes. Otherwise, if I just have to get a ride in I do so in town. We have the wildlife issue here as well. A deer is bad enough to hit in a car, been there done that. On a motorcycle however, it could be fatal. I imagine it would be much like hitting a kangaroo for our Aussie brethren.

I live in the South East Corner of Alabama and love to ride at night yes you have to watch out for the wild life but it is so peaceful and relaxing riding under the stars
But I would rather watch for Deer than deal with the Drunks on the main drag

RE: Anyone like to ride at night?
LOL, I guess you do have a point. Deer can't run nearly as fast as a drunk in a sportscar. Like you, I like the calm that you get from riding at night. I especially like the spring, or fall rides when there is just a little bite to the air, but not so much as to get cold.

RE: Anyone like to ride at night?
i ride in all conditions other than rain if i can help it. i use some yellow shades to protect my eyes and they also make lights a little bit sharper.

i was going north up Hwy16 in Texas hill country at night and the road was cutting back and forth and up and down through some mountainous terrain and woods. speed limit was about 20mph because of how steep and often the turns were. i came around one turn and there was a deer right there in front of me about 15 yards ahead. good thing i was already going slow but still had to hit the brakes pretty hard. i'd rather not ride at night on those kinds of roads but didn't have a choice then. if you do it frequently, there are whistles you can mount to your ride that should ward off animals.
Ride to work. Work to ride.

Never mind riding at night myself. In fact night riding is actually necessary if I want to ride into work from time to time, 3rd shift and all. But I don't see night riding as a problem.

As for deer, I'm a city boy and around here I've never once seen a deer around my route to and from work. I have though once come close to nailing a dog as it ran across the freeway in front of me, talk about needing a change of undies afterward.

RE: Anyone like to ride at night?
Never seeing a deer during your commute...I can't imagine. I have seen just about everything we have here in South Georgia with most of it being out in the road, dead or alive. I really do feel like a country boy now. I've seen dogs, rats, cats, bats, possum, armadillo, deer, turtles, gators, beaver, countless avian varieties, including owls and other large birds of prey, and those blasted snakes. Also I should add an array of giant insects that feel like you've been shot when one hits you in the chest.
