RE: V Star 1300 top speed...
Yeah, it get's it pretty quick. It climbs and climbs all the way to about 135mph, then it starts to slow down the last 10mph, but just ever so slightly, and that's only assuming because the speedo only goes to 135. . It doesn't really hit a wall at all all the way up to the top speed.

I had to rely on my phone on a previous test run to see the actual top speed via GPS. I did that on a stretch of George Bush Turnpike by my house in Irving, TX where there wasn't any traffic what so ever. This tollroad has a super smooth surface, especially by where I did my test run

True, but it's also all about how odds and how often you put yourself into that position. Now if I were to do this a couple times a week or more, then my odds would be greatly increased of me having an accident. I have only done that in traffic like that twice and I only did it on that highway, where there are HUGE double if not triple wide shoulders for me to use as an exit. Like I said in a previous post, before I make a lane change, I make sure I have an exit strategy incase I have to bail, so I always have atleast one lane open to the left or the right of me to switch to, usually it's atleast the shoulder if not an actual lane. I try to stay in the far left or far right lane. This turnpike has 4 lanes on each side plus the super wide shoulders.

@Dallas1300, I'm with you mate.

I had mine back on the dyno after fitting the Barons BAK, and a fortnight ago opened it up along a nice bit of road here 180kph and more throttle to come but I caught up to some traffic so it was back to being responsible and sensible.

I am happy to know that the bike has a heap of grunt if required to get you out of trouble. My recent drama would have been something to talk about if I had been able to pull it off and had the car not been closing on me.

Normally I tell myself I have the best cruiser made and that is what it is built for..... to cruise!

I know that you are suppose to obey the speed limit but I have gotten my Vstar 1300 Tourer up to 120 mph without any problems at all. I read you could get it up to 130. I was happy to hit 120 mph. I think I could of reached to 130mph but my straightaway was ending.

I don't do this often, let alone in traffic, but I am surprised that you all haven't gone any faster than 100 on this bike. The 1300 cruises so nicely at 100, even 120. I know it's not a sport bike, but like it was previously mentioned, you get the itch to open it up and see what it can do. U.S. 1300's have a 135mph speedometer, so I had to put my phone with GPS to see how fast it would actually go and got it up to 145 several times. I'm not sure how fast I got it up in this video as I didn't have my camera suction cupped to my gas tank, but I have done it a few times so I can tell how fast it's actually going, plus the fact that I bought the bike brand new in 2007, so I have been riding it for 6 years. That and I can tell how much throttle I have left when I peg the needle at 135. Only modifications I have done to the bike is put on a full exhaust; Vance & Hines Big Shots and drilled out the air box. The video doesn't do justice to the sound with the Vance & Hines. As for the air box mod, I drilled small holes; 3 rows over and roughly 16 rows down on each side of the factory air box.

Ok, here is the video. Like I said, I don't do it often, let alone in traffic. And objects appear closer than they really are, with the fish eye lens on my GoPro Hero2. If your computer can support it, make sure to change the play mode to 1080p

My 950 would vibrate apart at those speeds. I can barely tolerate the vibrating-buzzing at 65mph. Wish I had bought a bigger bike..

The 1300 is in it's element at 80 mph.
With a good shield and lowers you can do it all day, that's what it's geared for.

I drove at 75 to sometimes 80 mph for over four hours yesterday. Still very smooth. It creeps up on you.

I always have trouble sticking to the speed limit. It's worse on the bike.

That's just crazy though @dallas1300

I just put a Bat Wing [with lowers] on my 1300 as you may remember and still getting used to it.
At slower speeds I have to watch it, the feel of speed is gone, I guess it's the way the BW cuts throw the air.
Your in a bubble with no turbulence.
At speed it's the same but I'm watching my speed more so am more aware of whats going on.
I hope that makes sense.

I just went out to take some pictures of the bike with some descent back grounds and on my way back I hit a stretch of open country road and I think to my self . Lets do 90 mph and check out the Bat Wing.
Well at 90 there just isn't any wind it was like being in a vacuum, felt really good so I gave her [she is a girl, you knew that right?]
some more gas and no problem.
I'm just cruising down this mountain looking at a rain storm coming up maybe 10 miles away just beautiful.
And the next thing I know my feet are being blown off the highway pegs!!!
Look down at the speedo, I'm doing like 115.
There is no buffeting just as smooth as butter,
Man this wing is the thing!!!
Got to love it, just got to love it!!!
