V Star 1300 top speed...
Thursday, it being Thanksgiving and all, I went out for a ride in the morning. No traffic at all on a 4 lane highway where I live. So I opened it up a bit. Of course I didn't hit top speed, but I was in triple digits...and then some.

Curious what you guys have been up to. I don't make a habit of this, but every once in a while you have to blow it open to clean up carbon deposits, right?

On my 1300 I have had the needle sit on the 160 kph mark, which equates to 99.4....... close enough to 100 mph (in round figures)! However, there is a built in speedo error of 5 kph / 3 mph on the high side so in fact I was doing 97 mph (in round figures) or a true 155 kph! I have checked my speedo against my GPS, when I'm cruising now I use the dashboard function on my GPS to keep on the limits and when I am riding locally and do not have the GPS on the bike I stick to the speedo knowing that I am definitely "under the radar" so to speak!

It has only happened a couple of times, too many wallet emptying devices laying in wait for just such occasions!

It is nice to know that the bike has that extra grunt on tap just in case you need it to get out of danger, but it used very rarely and even then with great caution! These bikes are cruisers - not knee dragging, peg scrapping (although the occasional foot-board rub sounds cool) boy racers!

Had my 1100 up to 160km or 100m like Gibbo my speedo reads a bit over, but still counts. Only done it a couple of times.

You guys seem crazy. I get nervous above 80mph. In a car, that is a different story.

After the fitment of the PC V and the dyno session, last Saturday I found a nice bit of road and let the 1300 have it's head. At 170kph (105. something mph) it was still getting wound up had plenty of throttle to go but the size of the kangaroos that where in the field beside the road made me decide to button off! My pillion wanted to know why I was coming back to the legal speed limit, she just sat back against her backrest and lapped it up!!!
It proved that my homemade lowers work extremely well, as I could read the speedo clearly with no buffeting or blurred vision.

Like you say Doc it wasn't even breathing hard!!!

RE: V Star 1300 top speed...
I know I'm probably throwing myself under the buss here by sending you all the link of a video I made with my GoPro Hero2 camera, but I did 145mph on my V-Star 1300 on George Bush Tollway in Dallas, TX. I don't do this often, let alone in traffic, but I am surprised that you all haven't gone any faster than 100 on this bike. The 1300 cruises so nicely at 100, even 120. I know it's not a sport bike, but like it was previously mentioned, you get the itch to open it up and see what it can do. U.S. 1300's have a 135mph speedometer, so I had to put my phone with GPS to see how fast it would actually go and got it up to 145 several times. I'm not sure how fast I got it up in this video as I didn't have my camera suction cupped to my gas tank, but I have done it a few times so I can tell how fast it's actually going, plus the fact that I bought the bike brand new in 2007, so I have been riding it for 6 years. That and I can tell how much throttle I have left when I peg the needle at 135. Only modifications I have done to the bike is put on a full exhaust; Vance & Hines Big Shots and drilled out the air box. The video doesn't do justice to the sound with the Vance & Hines. As for the air box mod, I drilled small holes; 3 rows over and roughly 16 rows down on each side of the factory air box.

Ok, here is the video. Like I said, I don't do it often, let alone in traffic. And objects appear closer than they really are, with the fish eye lens on my GoPro Hero2. If your computer can support it, make sure to change the play mode to 1080p

RE: V Star 1300 top speed...
There are a few long, straight stretches around here well suited for this kind of "behavior". May give it a shot.

In 2008, West Richland, Washington, was the location of the speed test for the fastest production car in the world (Aero SSC TT) at over 250 mph (400 km/h). The car was designed here. The vicinity roads were closed temporarily for this testing. I think they will be good enough for me, though I won't be approaching anything NEAR 250 mph.
There is great need for a sarcasm font.

That's pretty quick Dallas, I was surprised how easily it reached the top of the speedo
