2013 650 Custom Engine Guard
I see a bunch of engine guards listed for Classics up to 2010 model year. Will these fit a 2013 Custom? Did The frame change after 2010 so they don't fit newer models? I'm looking for a unit that has some size to it, not the little two-piece jobs that really are only good for mounting highway pegs. The Linby Bars are nice, but too pricey. Cobra seems to make a nice product, buy I'm not sure why the Custom isn't listed for fitment.

I found out.
Yes, they'll fit.
From: MC Enterprises part # 1000-32 Full Size Engine Guard
Distributed by Tucker Rocky, I got this off Amazon through Powersport Superstore:

Zinc hardware is my only complaint. They supply everything, including the bottom mount spacers, but no lock washers for the bottom bolts (none on the factory bolts, either). I'll replace the top bolts with stainless and paint the bottom mount hardware black. Perfect fit and what appears to be really nice chrome. I didn't install it for the aesthetics. It's a fairly stout piece, the 6mm top bolts (backed by the plastic frame cover under the top mounts) being the weak link. I used Loctite on the new fasteners and it took me about 15 minutes, by myself. It would be nice to have a second set of hands, but this ain't my first rodeo, so I managed.

Nice looking guards. Thanks for the pics. I didn't know how they were mounted. I just went to the garage and looked at the 650. There are bolts that I didn't know were there.
Never tell someone more than they are willing to hear.

Thanks, man. I just ordered a set of these for my ride. Good looking bars and less expensive than some of the flimsy-looking two-piece jobs.

These came in, getting ready to put them on now.

BTW, Carb Cleaner I noticed you mentioned you might switch to stainless bolts - I'd be careful about that. Stainless bolts typically have about half of the shear and tensile strength of the 8.8 grade bolts supplied in the kit. I think if I was going to change the bolts at all I'd go to 10.9 grade bolts. (Those upper bolts, especially, are not that big and it would be a shame if the one time the "crash" bars are needed the top breaks loose and punches through the gas tank or something...)

RE: 2013 650 Custom Engine Guard
Installation was a snap except for it being 102 degrees out and the sun having moved so the bike was out in the sun, again.

I do recommend 1/2" sockets and a breaker bar for loosening the bolts that hold the foot pegs as they are on pretty tight.

There is only one thing I'm not crazy about, and I guess there isn't really a way around it if you want a full-size bar; the top of the bars actually go over the plastic frame covers and then are held with flimsy little 6mm bolts that were fine for holding a plastic cover but seem pretty inadequate for holding the ends of a highway bar. That seems to be how the other brands attach, too, however.
