watch your tire age
When I bought my 04 650 custom it only had 750 miles on it , this was in 2011. Origional tires of course. The front one was MAJOR age cracked between treads and sidewall also. The rear had no visible cracking so I rode with that one till today. After I removed it from the rim and there was no pressure on the sidewalls , ALL the cracks showed up!!!!! So , to make a long story short , it isn't the matter of miles or tread on the tires but the age of them!!!! I read once on auto tires that if over 5 years or so they are unsafe , I believe that now on cycle tires!!
Hope this is of help to someone! Looks can be deceiving on your tires!

RE: watch your tire age
That's a good point. I never would have given it much thought but, I bought my '09 650 Custom last year and it had 1600 miles on it. I put 4,600 miles on it and the front tire was worn out (6,200 miles total). I replaced it with a new one same make same model etc. I have over 5,500 miles on the new one and there is very little sign of wear. Must be the newer rubber is more resilient. Shy

RE: watch your tire age
wow, glad I stumbled across this thread. Never gave the age of the tires any thought. It's an 07 that I bought last year. I figured the bike barely had 5k on it...I'm good to go!

Except maybe not.

I was on the fence about new tires...not anymore!

and for anyone that may have a camper, those tires are special made, it is said to replace those every 2-3 years. know my last set still looked like new when removed them.
