Can I use non CA exhaust on my 2004 CA 650?
My exhaust cracked in half, so I went on ebay and bought some stock oem pipes that are supposed to fit my year to replace them. A day later I find out that there are California versions of this bike, and the California versions of the exhaust pipes. The exhaust pipes that I bought came off a bike in Ohio.
Can I still install non California pipes on my California model bike?

California just means "stupid", that's all. On a serious note california has to do with emissions standards hence the stupid reference. Pipes from California, ohio, or bangladesh for that matter will fit. You may experience different operating tolerances due to the stupid restrictions but nothing that we or your local shop can't show you how to make em wide open.

All versions of your bike are exactly the same...the difference is that CA has a kit of emissions restrictions so the CA pipes come already in compliance with those restrictions..
That doesn't mean the size of anything else will be different
Get them on and ride !

Thanks guys, now I can stress about it a bit less. Googling around had me worried about CO2 sensors and carburetor fitments and such. As long as it fits. And just maybe I'll gain a little boost out of it running without the CA constrictions.

And if you do decide on getting them from Bangladesh, make sure the factory has some minimal fire safety standards in place. jk.

Actually, the CA bike has a few differences. I believe 2004 was when they started putting Catylatic converters on the CA models, so the pipes are a little longer. The rest of the country didn't get them until 2006. The exhaust bracket in the back is longer on the CA models. Look at item 22 in this picture: http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c193/p..._frame.gif
If you get that bracket along with the pipes, you'll be fine. If not, you'll have to find the shorter one. The other difference is the tank vent, which goes to a vapor recovery canister.
