Aped Z Bars
Hey guys! Looking to do my first real mod and seeing as how I am a taller rider (6' 3") with gorilla arms, I've been thinking about getting some new handlebars for the 650 custom.

I like the look of the z bars more than regular apes and I like that they offer them in different heights. I was thinking about doing the 8 or 10inch z bars from licks. Does anyone have any experience with these?

Which size should I get? If I get the 8" and find them to be too short can I just use risers to make them a bit taller?

Also, looking to add forward control extensions from the extension depot, so I want something that isn't gonna have me all spread out and awkward.

Once again, total n00b here so any help is greatly appreciated!

Nobody has had any experience with these? Or have any recommendations for some inexpensive z bars?

@nayisthereason, those really pointy bends make me SHIVER. I can picture a punctured lung or spleen happening, as I go a-sailing forward on impact.

Experience? No!

Not on my bucket list.
There is great need for a sarcasm font.

RE: Licks Aped Z Bars
I have a z bar. A 10inch I hella love it! Stock cables worked too!

And I have +5 fwds from extension depot. Good price, really easy to put on and it made the bike more comfortable. I used blue loc tite and I haven't had any sort of problems in the past 3 years I've had em

Bar length... lol I bet your gonna want the 10". If you get the 8 later on you'll think you shoulda got the 10. And then after awhile you'll think you shoulda got a 12 (haha that's where I'm at)

The licks bars look pretty nice...
I can't really tell you what they feel like riding...
I'm nstalling Zbars in my bobber build... And the look sick :)
A couple if things you need to consider is that you are not just going to have to invest in the bars but you will also have to budget for the following
*New longer Brake line
*New longer Clutch cable
*New throttle cables
*Extend your wiring harness

The total $ at the end can get expensive
So, that's just a heads up so you can make a more informed decision

Hope that helps

Yeah I thought of that, that's why I'm thinking about getting the 8" bars since they're only 1-1/2" or so taller than stock.

Or would I still need all new cables? Trying to find a solution that requires the least amount of time and $$$ haha

Yeah I'm trying to stay as far away from getting new cables as possible!

Right on. I think I saw those on the bay for like $55.

You didn't need new lines or cables with the 10"?

RE: Licks Aped Z Bars
I had to a little re routing with the cables and I had to loosen and re angle the banjo bolt on the brake hose to point down a bit and I had to splice in some wires to the things that went up top but nope. But then again I have the 1100... and the z bar I have isn't very wide.

I suggest you undo your risers and raise your bar up 8 or 10 inches and see what you can work with.

These are the exact ones I got! This place even has a scan of the catalog....wierd

I have z bars on my 1100 custom and they are 12"! I love em and im only 5'8". The only thing I had to replace was the brake line. The throttle cables, clutch cable, and wiring were all fine (after some rerouting which was no biggie). Oh and they are attached to the stock risers. My bikes in pieces at the moment so here is the best pic I have.
