RE: Rims
To have aftermarket wheels made, will cost about as much as the bike is worth. I have a wheel cover on the back, and swapped the front for an older XS 1100 wheel. I have not had the time or money to try the XS1100 wheel on the back yet. It will have to have the entire brake system for the rear because it's a disc brake. The axle on the XS 1100 rear tire I think is larger than the XVS 650. There might be a way of machining a bushing to take up the extra space in the wheel. The drive gears will also have to be changed, they are opposite of each other, no idea if the housings will match.I don't know, just haven't had the opportunity to try it out. I have a quick how to for the XS1100 front wheel swap at my blog. You can check it out here if you'd like. On the front, you can also drill out the fork leg to a 3/4, and have an axle machined to match the Vstar threads, enabling you to use an older Harley 21" wheel. The only other wheel swap I can think of would involve a lot more work than just changing out wheels. If you just want to change the looks out a bit, you would be amazed at what painting the wheels will do. Black, and Red seem to be popular colors, but I have seen a few other colors that looked good too.
