RE: Plastidip anyone? pics...
My first FZ1 was Silver and I did not like the look at all. The Previous owner had spray painted the windscreen flat back so I decided to go for a flat black look. Here is the bike when I got it:

It was missing the rear grips on the rear plastics, so I found some used ones online and spray painted the tail section before I knew about plasti-dip, here are the results:

I was not super happy with the look when I was done, and I found out about the Plasti-dip, so I tried that for the front:

I also changed the wind screen bolts to be a bright steel to pop, and I really liked it. So I did the front wheel cover:

I was going to do the Tank next, but a woman decided she wanted to be in the same lane that I was already in and ran me into a curb when I was going about 10mph. Cracked Radiator, cracked plastics - Insurance Salvaged it out. I used the insurance money to buy my Current FZ1 which is Yamaha Blue and came with a clear Windscreen that never quite looked right:

I ended up keeping the old bike, fixing it up and selling it as a Salvaged title bike, but before I did, i swapped out the screen and still have my old Plasti-dipped screen on my current bike. The stuff holds up really well. I have put about 25k miles on that screen since the plasti-dip and it is in great shape. I have hit plenty of bugs n rocks n such, no tears, no scratches, etc.

Not sure if I will be using plasti-dip on my new (to me) Vstar 1300, but I might.

Sorry for the long post.... ;-)

I decided to do flat black plastidip on tank and fenders. I can easily take it off if I don't like it. Came out surprisingly good except for the last coat on tank, I ran out so it has some texture to it on the top. There's metallizers for it too, gunmetal!

Has anyone tried this?[Image: u3ypezaj.jpg][Image: 6uhesubu.jpg]

@pauli466 I found that as long as you put nice even layers (usually end up w 5-6) you won't have any issues. Mind you I have only used rattle cans so layer count may differ with spray gun.

Only issue I have had was when I managed to spill gas on tank which softened the plasti-dip. I BLOTTED up gas with paper towels and yes there was damage to finish but not to bad . Learned don't rub/wipe gas spills that will peel dip off for sure.

RE: Plastidip anyone? pics...
I plastidipped the hell out of my bike several times over but the one major problem i ran into with the tank is that if you get one drop of gas on it. it dissolves the dip quick and ruins the coating. otherwise though it's awesome i love the stuff

I sorta cheated this last time and sprayed regular clear coat over the top lace painted section of the tank. Since my layer of plastidip it thick ms even I'll have no problem pulling the dip off. Snot spilled gas about 2 weeks after doing the tank and there's hardly any damage to the finish. 😀
