Yep...I was just looking at the noaa site a little bit ago. Looks like it's going to be pretty sweet.

RE: Bike should be fixed Monday
i hope to get a morning run in the next few days, have to clean out the truck, get the aux tank out, cap off the fuel feed, remove bed cover, go get all washed up then picture time to put her up on craigs then ebay. had a really good(best one yet) interview yesterday but it is about a 25-30 mile drive one way so truck would use about 100-140 in fuel per week so time to downsize. figure go from 350 to 250 with some higher miles so can still pull trailer but then should leave enough $ to get some kinda used econobox for commuting along with the occasional bike ride to work. as I was leaving the manager said thought interview went very well and be a decision by the end of the week.

Got a call from Bob at the shop today. The part finally came in. I have to go into the office again tomorrow but hopefully I'll be able to take the bike up there Thursday and get it installed.

Here's hoping it actually fixes the problem... :)

I hope that it is the fix you've been looking for. You've paid dearly for it in time and frustration.

Thanks. I'm reasonably confident that this is going to fix the problem where the check engine light comes on as soon as you hit 55 or thereabouts. What worries me (and the main reason I purchased an extended warranty last week) is I think that problem is just masking a much thornier one - the heat sensitive issue. I know that the sending unit in the speedometer has to be either a hall effect or optical pulse generator and there is very, very little chance that either would be temperature sensitive - nor are they in a place that gets especially hot as the bike runs.

Yesterday coming home I had the check engine light come on after I accelerated moderately hard from a light after sitting in triple-digit temperatures at a light and I know darn well I never got up to near the speed where the light "normally" comes on.

So, I'll have to take a good long run in the heat and see if the light comes on. If it does, it's going to be really hard for the shop to duplicate. When I take the bike in tomorrow I'm going to talk to Bob and ask him how they read the code for the current problem. I can't see that the light flashes the way the shop manual claims - but he said it was throwing a code 42 (I think it was) that indicated it was the speed sensor. I need to be able to read the code if it does come on during long hot runs 'cause I know they're not going to ride it a hundred miles in the heat to see if the light comes on.

I wish it had a standard automotive diagnostic port on it - I've got a reader for that.

RE: Bike should be fixed Monday
Well...my bike now has 6.4 miles on her...does that mean I need to go through another break-in period?

The good news...the new speedo cluster fixed the problem (at least the easy to duplicate one - it will be a while before I'm confident that the heat sensitive issue is also gone).

The bad news...the new speedo cluster has a dented bezel. Honestly, it's not terrible and I probably wouldn't have noticed it until the first time I waxed the bike...maybe not even then...but the guy at the dealer pointed it out real apologetically and said, "we went ahead and put it on so your engine light will be fixed...we'll warranty this out and make Yamaha ship another one."

It's small enough I probably wouldn't even care except if I ever trade or sell the bike somebody is going to think the bike has been banged up or mistreated.
