throttle issues
Greetings All!
I'm having some trouble at 1/2-3/4 throttle. My 98 650 kind of bucks, struggles/calls for something halfway into the gears. I don't have a tachometer so I'm taking an educated guess where/when it happens.
I was riding May/June without issues and now all of a sudden this is happening. Plugs are OK. I'd rather not get into ripping the carbs apart so any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Jon

RE: throttle issues
You may want to check your fuel filter. It may be partially clogged. Make sure you fuel shutoff is all the way on also. It could also be dirt or foreign material in the gas tank. Just some thoughts.

Oh, and welcome to the forum. Augie

RE: throttle issues
yep filter like @commonground said, check air filter too, then just pour some sea foam in the tank too cannot hurt in case of something in the line or carbs to help clean it out. don't just go to the bike shop for the fuel filter, take your filter to the local pep boys, oreilly etc and match it up, car filter is fine and lots cheaper.

Do I need to remove the tank in order to get to the fuel filter?

RE: throttle issues
not sure on the 650, know on the 1100 it is under the tank, you just prop it up, do not have to remove to replace the filter, am sure @OldePhart and possibly @commonground know for sure on the filter location.

RE: throttle issues
I think that it is up under the tank close to the fuel shutoff valve but, not having a 650 and becoming senile I don't know for sure. Wink

@Keith has too much confidence in me. One thing I haven't done on my bike is go looking for the fuel filter... ;)

"Managing engineers is like herding cats". John, I was in the business of herding cats for many years and software cats are much harder to herd than hardware cats but, in time you begin to understand how they think. It's scary. Confused

RE: throttle issues
wiki confirms, by the petcock under the fuel tank, did see that if that does not cure it, that could be a issue with the petcock itself needing new gaskets.

@commonground I gave up herding and went back to being one. I sleep at night again now. Smile

And nice sneak in of a cat reference.
