Classic seat on a custom - vstar 1100
So, after about 20 miles on my new-to-me '05 1100, I figured that the seat was going to need major modification or replacement. The problem is that funding was was too short for a replacement.
So off to my favorite Internet swap meet. Where I found an interesting driver's backrest that included a studded classic front and rear seat. Thinking that I could sell the seats and recoup some of the cost of the backrest, threw out a bid and won the seat and backrest.
A few days later, I opened a bow with all the backrest parts and seat, and begin install the backrest.

This is were the trouble started. The backrest pushed me too far forward. Now what.
On a whim, I plopped the classic seat on to see if it could work.

Hmm, not too bad looking.

But then there's this,

Besides being a single bolt bracket, had a little too much distance to the custom's fender.
That's when the tinker in me wakes up. Off to the hardware store for some nuts, bolts and some 1/8th thick by 2" wide strap steel.

Long story short, after some bending, hammering, drilling and multiple test fits. I get this.

Still needs some padding modification, and maybe some gel and memory foam.
But much more comfortable. Cool

Nice! That's a pretty good job of bending tin to get a Classic seat onto a Custom!

I solved my (650) Custom seat problem by putting some 5/8" gel under the stock upholstery, on top of the factory foam. I was able to flatten the contour of the seat some by having most of the gel on top of the factory foam but then recessing it into the factory foam at the back. Made the seat a little flatter front to back so the upswept rear wasn't pressing into my rear. Biggrin

I'm thinking about carving out a spot for some gel, a little bit of shaving around the tailbone area, and a layer of memory foam all over. Trying to get more dish for me arse. Yet keep the same profile.
I figure to keep the stock seat for when I sell.
