Installed LED turn signals, now no speedo
Last winter I installed LED turn signals, a new flasher relay and
resistors. The turn signals work perfectly, but now my speedometer
doesn't. These may be unrelated, but the problem happened after the LEDs
were installed. If the bike runs for apx 25 miles the speedo will start
working fine. I am lost here. Please help.

RE: Installed LED turn signals, now no speedo
Well, you didn't say what model but believe it or not the turn signal relay and speedo can be connected, though usually it's the speedo being wacked that kills the self-canceling feature of turn signals (and potentially throws check engine lights).

Anyway, there is a signal from the speedo (actually the speedometer cable) to the factory flasher relay that turns the flasher relay off after about 200' of travel - this is for the self-canceling turn signals. The same signal goes to the ECU so it knows ground speed for whatever calculations it uses that in.

On my 650 the sending unit on the speedometer cable inside the instrument cluster went a little wacko - the canceling signals would still work but at about 50 mph the check engine light would come on.

I'm guessing in your case you've got an 1100 or one of the other bikes with the digital speedometer...because the line to the replacement relay is not properly terminated it is probably reflecting a signal or something that is messing up the speedometer.

RE: Installed LED turn signals, now no speedo
it is an 09 1100. I am reading around 5 volts to the cluster. I'm also getting 5 volts at the speed sensor. Is this correct? I know the signal wire ties into the flasher relay, but I can not figure this out.

RE: Installed LED turn signals, now no speedo
I'd make sure that the signal wire that went to the flasher is not grounded...that would pull the pulse at the sensor down so it wouldn't drive the speedo correctly. Beyond that it's kind of hit and miss because if it's a noise issue from an unterminated wire that can be really difficult to prove/fix because there is no way to know what termination resistance was expected.

Oh, it's also possible that the sensor on the speedo cable got damaged when the cluster was removed.
