My First round of Maintenance on the 1100 Classic
I finished up the first round of maintenance on the bike.

Checked the valve clearance. It was pretty easy. Only sounded intimidating.
It did take me a couple of tries to put the crank case cover back on; those short bolts can only go in two places. Also replaced the rusted hardware for mounting the muffler and put some anti-seize on them. I noticed that the previous owner put an oil filter adapter on the bike so you don't have to remove the muffler. I was happy to see that. I didn't need an oil change but it will make future maintenance easier.

Checked the spark plugs.
Over torqued one and broke off the threaded half. I was able to back it out with some pliers and put a new one in. Lessen learned.

Cleaned the carburetor.
Didn't really need cleaning, but I was unsure of the condition. I lost two parts, so had to wait two weeks for replacement parts. I had to pull the whole carbuerator out just to get enough torque on those pan head screws that hold the bottom reservoir on. I replaced those panhead screws with torque screws.

Synched the carburetor.
Bought a Motion Pro synch tool. Took me to tries, to get them synched up. First time Idle was set to high and sucked all the fluid out. Bike sounds so much better now and runs alot smoother. It must have been way out of synch.

Replaced the Fuel filter.

Replaced the Air filter.

For round two I'd like to fix an issue with a bubbling sound coming from my muffler. Also the bike is not very reliable with starting. It takes multiple times. I've already replaced the starter motor. Anyone know what these issues might be?

bubbling noise, is it almost like a popping? is it stock exhaust?

Yes it's stock exhaust. More like a gurggle. I read that it's unburnt fuel hitting the hot exhaust. Just not sure if it's normal since it seems more pronounce from the top exhaust only.

I found out today that if I put the bike in gear and back it up in gear. It starts up just fine the first time. Very reliable, just not if there's a problem I need to address now.

had a mechanic say a lot of that gurgling is the ethanol issue in fuel now, get a bottle of StarTron treatment just pour a little to a tank, a bottle will last many tanks @Masao.

I had a bike gurgle once. Exhaust mount stud broke and it was leaking exhaust.
