emptying gas tank
Probably a stupid questioon but: Looking for an easy way to empty the gas tank so I can lift it it off - too heavy for me to lift off loaded. A way to drain it?

RE: emptying gas tank
Well, my first option would be to "Ride It Out"

My second option might be to siphon it into a gas can

third option might be to get someone to help you lift it, don't drop it

Generally there is a hose beneath, but you have neglected to state which model you have.

RE: emptying gas tank
set petcok to off, remove the fuel hose that connects the petcock to the carb from the carb, aim hose into a bucket, open the petcok. Viola!! unless you're fuel injected...then i don't know

RE: emptying gas tank
if your bike is the 650 like your avatar you can drain it at the petcock . but if you want to do it quicker get some help and turn the tank upside down over a clean 5 gallon pail. after i do mine that way i immediately pour the fuel into a wide mouth funnel into my car. never leave fuel in an open container.

RE: emptying gas tank
Thanks to all. Knowing little and not able to figure out the diagrams, I thought the fuel pump was between the tank and the petcock. Discovered it was not -
For any others as non-mechanically minded as I am, here's the answer:

Disconnect output of petcock (petcock in "off" position), attach one end of two feet of purchased gas tubing to the output, other end to gas can. open petcock to "reserve". Amazing: an empty tank and a full can.
