Time for tires
Hey everyone. I have an '04 VStar 650 with just over 7k on it. She has the original tires on her. Besides the age of the tires the rear is worn enough where it's now time. Please excuse my ignorance but i'm not too motorcycle savvy. I know there are tubes in the original OEM Dunlops. I'm looking to get a set of Michelin Commander II. Being that these are "tubeless" tires, can a new tube be purchased and used with this model tire ? I would appreciate any help on this. Can seem to get an answer from the tire sites I've been looking at.

Thanks....

RE: Time for tires
I'm on my second set of Commander II. Get 22k miles on first set. Like the ride and stability. Yes you can run tubes in them without any issues. I would suggest new tubes with the new tires. Also it's the best time to detail wheels when off if you are doing it yourself, so build it some extra time.

RE: Time for tires
hello, you must have spoke wheels, as those are i believe the only rim that requires a tube and you can add a tube to tubeless tires no problem at all. michelin are great tires as well as many others, i am currently running shinko, they are affordable and have great traction, had metzler prior to these that were also great but cost quite a bit more.

These were the original Dunlops that came with the bike. I bought it from a co-worker and only put about 1500 miles on them. Let's just say the previous owner was a big guy so i'm sure that may have played a factor into the wear. lol
