Newbie and a 2000 VStar 650
Hi everyone,
Mark here and I am a newbie to motorcycles. I've been looking at mainly cruisers and I am torn between a 2013 Triumph America and a 2000 VStar 650. The Vstar has a windshield, saddlebags, rear storage, passenger seat and floorboards and 11K miles. The Triumph has 3,800 miles, windshield, saddlebags and is EFI. Anyone have any thoughts on the VStar over the Triumph? The Triumph is 3 times the cost of the Vstar coming in at $6500 while the Vstar is $2300. Is the 2000 VStar with carbs a true pain in the ass or is it just basic maintenance to keep it clean? Any advice would be helpful.

Hi Mark I just bought a 01 vstar 650 it had sat for 2 years with old gas in it. Took off the tank and the carbs cleaned them both and even put a used hyper charger on it with jet kit.You can find anything on youtube these days. Long story short it was no big deal to work on it . I do not claim to be a bike mechanic but it is running fine.Go with the bike that fits you and your wallet the best have fun and be safe.

Hi Mark, I bought a 2007 VStar 650 4 years ago and love it! I bought it with 8400 miles on it. I do the annual oil change and have had zero issues with this bike...it runs perfectly every time I crank her up. No carb issues at all. I turn her on, let her sit while I gear up then jump on and ride. I have no knowledge of the Triumph, but can say the 650 is an excellent bike.
