Dunlop Elite 3 front tire...
Hello all,

I'm trying to learn about tires. That being said, I had a new front tire put on when I found dry cracks in the sidewall of my Bridgestones. All they had for my front tire size was the Dunlop Elite 3.

I like the tire. It seems like sticky, grippy rubber. My front handles very nicely now.

I have maybe a few thousand miles left on my rear Bridgestone Exedra, but want to start shopping online for a new rear. I would like the matching Dunlop Elite 3 but they only make it in a 180/70/16. (And also a 160/70...but I ain't goin' smaller man.)

So... I'm still learning, but... I guess I could go with that? As long as it fits, because it would be wider right?

I may have to go with a different type of tire for the rear if I understand that I want to keep the stock size which is 170/70/16.

Can anyone shed any light on my dilemma?

The 180/70/16 will work just fine. The Elite 3 is light years beyond that Bridgestone.

Just got the new rear tire put on, and oh man! Never knew my bike could be so flickable. It handles like a dream now with the new Elite 180/70.

The tire is not very sexy IMO. You can see a texture to it. But it is sticky, and it is lovely in my eyes. This thing will make me feel much more safe as we get into the cold wet months in New England!

I really don't like the bridgestones ,at times I can feel it slide on a small turn. I'm will try the commander 2 soon.

I wanted a Commander on my front. But was a begger for my front tire, not a chooser. Needed it, and glad I got the matching rear. They are sweet as brand new. Will see how many miles I get from them.

So far about 1,000 on the front I think, and it looks great.

Dood, if they are the original tires, you must consider replacing them. I have a rear tire blow-out on my dad's pickup a few years ago. I was told that the 2006 tires were too old, regardless of "condition", and that they should be replaced.

The cop that showed up told me that I was lucky that the blowout was in the rear, rather than the front, as the speed limit in Oregon there is 65 mph.

Following up with this post about my Dunlops. Put a brand new Elite 3 on the Rear just before embarking on a 7,185 mile 15 day round trip across America.

Here are pics. The front probably has at least an extra 500 miles on it because it first.

Some weird cupping I noticed now in the front. But they handled beautifully in all conditions. Twisty cold roads, rain, etc. - Still feeling great.

RE: Dunlop Elite 3 front tire...
had some type of Dunlop on my prior 2 bikes when I got them, was the worst handling tire ever, went to metzler on the 1100 was a much better tire, then due to lack of funds when was time to replace them went with shinko, I was very happy with them in spite of some bad reports on them, excellent grip in all conditions, had only put a few thousand on them when sold blue.

when comes time for replacing the tires on the strato am thinking about the Michelin.
