Should I do a valve adjustment at 25k? V Star 1100
Hi, my bike is at 24,400km (15,161 miles) and a mechanic told me that the valves should be adjusted at 25,000km.

He said it would cost about $800 CAD and could cause damage if I didn't do it. Thoughts? Should I get them adjusted, how long should it take, and If I don't get them adjusted will it cause damage?

Also wondering how many miles/km I can drive my bike past the recommended adjustment mileage before anything bad might happen.

Thanks

there not hard to adjust, i think the tank has to come off then you may need new orings.i check mine every other year.i do them over the winter. you need a service manual. a shop would probably charge one or two hours labor.$90.00 an hour.

I can believe the price. I did my 2014 Bolt and it took a full day. Access is always the issue. Getting at them is a b....

At any rate, they turned to be spot on after 16,000 Miles.

So here is what I'm doing with my VStar 950... If the vacuum gauge shows no flutter I'm just leaving them alone. A fluttering needle would indicate worn guides or incorrect lash.

The lash never gets tighter with time so there is no danger in burning your valves.
It gets looser due to wear. I suspect you would hear noisy valves long before any damage could occur. It you are using a good grade engine oil and changing the filter the wear will be minimal.

If your vacuum is stable and the engine performs smoothly then I say "let a sleeping dog lie"

https://sites.google.com/site/vstar1100k...irs/valves says here as the valves wear the tolerances get closer
