Bullet_wrench  Gear shifter question
I recently purchased a 2004 XVS 650 Classic. The only really annoying thing about it is the gear shifter.

I have size 13 (size 49) boots and the heel keeps on catching the rear part of the shift lever. Will the gear shifter from a later model XVS 650 or the XVS 650 Classic fit on my bike. I don't want to just cut the existing shifter if at all possible. That way I can sell it with the bike, if i ever chose to sell it that is.

there is only three options extend the existing one or cut the heel part off or use a shifter from a vstar 650 custom actually the first three years of the 650 classic 1998-2000 used a custom style shifter no heel part, no running boards ether only pegs on both models for those first three years

RE: Gear shifter question
So I know I have seen this question asked several times in past searches, but all my reading just made me more confused.

I have a 2007 V Star Custom and I'm in the opposite boat. The only thing I wish it had is the Heel/Toe Shifter and floor boards I saw on some of the classics.

I would like to add these to my bike instead of the pegs. Is this doable? I emailed the person selling a set and they said I may need a different kickstand but in my readings of other posts, it seems like by 2007 they already moved the kickstand. If I did need a different kickstand, how hard would that switch be?

This is the set I was thinking of bidding on. Would I need anything else besides what is listed for sale?

RE: Gear shifter question
No, I don't want those 1100's. I'm going to try winning a set on ebay and take my chances. Worst case scenario like you said, they don't fit and I sell them elsewhere.

RE: Gear shifter question
Hi Everyone,

Sorry to highjack this thread but the layout of this site might be the worst I have ever seen. An 8th of the forum is perpetually hidden and I can't see anywhere the button to post a thread is located. Perhaps under my missing 1/8 of the page.

I think I exhausted everyone's knowledge of whether I can swap out pegs with floorboards from a Classic so I decided to try a different approach. I took some measurements on my 2007 Custom and was wondering if someone could do the same on a classic. Ideally, numbers from a 2002-2003, 2007 ish, and something newer.

These are the ridiculous measurements I came up with (ridiculous because I was bending tape measure and don't know precise names of things):

Farthest bolt in front holding shifter to frame to where physical kickstand starts: 11in
Same front bolt to front bolt from kickstand 12in
Back of shifter to kickstand 5in
Back bolt on kickstand to back wheel axel bolt 28 and 7/8in
Farthest bolt in front holding shifter to frame to back wheel axel bolt 44in

These measurements might be slightly off because I was also holding a flashlight, but they should be pretty close. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks,
Kevin
