Missing Keys '98 classic
Hi All,

*disclaimer* I have posted this on another forum, but the content has been modded as to comply? with the rules
*reasoning: to get the question out to more minds

I recently lost a good friend and his family offered me his bike.. I accepted it gladly as a token to keep him with me.

Long story short, we can't find the keys for it..
They don't know who owned the bike prior to my friend and don't have the book, so there's no hope of finding the Red Key, or the tag it had when new.

I spoke with a local dealer who informed me I would have to get a new ECU/immobilizer/ignition barrel, due to the Red key coding the ECU or some such.

Are these chipped keys used through the entire production of these bikes, or do early ones only use the 'key turns barrel, ignition sparks' no ECU intervention?

Is there a work around for these bikes, or am I going to have to bite the bullet and pay for the new system?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
