V Star 250 fuel mileage
Those of you who own V Star 250s, what do you get for fuel mileage? I've heard some pretty high numbers, but I didnd't know if this was realistic.

Re: V Star 250 fuel mileage
As a bone stock 2012 I average about 80/mpg or so, and that's mixed HW/city driving.

That's some great gas mileage. Not that I get bad MPG, but 80 is just freaking insane. Guess it makes sense. Those 250s are great little bikes.

I can't disagree about that! I've heard that by doing some minor mods you can pull almost 100/mpg. Stuff like sprockets and filters, I can't vouch from experience though because as I said mines bone stock.

I did a sprocket change and have been getting 90 mpg for three years going to work everyday ...

Wow, that is good. I ( my wife and I) used to have the Virago 250, and with normal cruising around it would get between 75-80 miles per gallon. She left it stock, but considered changing the sprocket. Sadly, it has been sold. I really miss riding that bike, fun, fun, fun.

I put a 17 tooth sprocket on the countershaft and a 43 tooth sprocket on the rear wheel(raising the front from 16 and dropping the rear from 45) on my 2014 and am getting 80-85 mpg---this gearing change also allows me to cruise at an easy 65 on the hiway.

I'm almost hesitant to reply to this and you'll soon see why.

I'm a newbie to motorcycle riding so I'm doing my learning on a V-Star 250 which I think is an absolute stunner for a beginner bike.

For the last few weeks I've been riding around 60 kph (35 mph) to 80 kph (50 mph) somewhere between 70km (40 miles) and 150 km ( 90 miles) per day - first tank was around 33 km per liter (75 mpg).

Now today after riding for 225 km (140 miles) I used 5.716 liters ( 1.51 gal us) to fill up.

Doing the math - 140 m / 1.51 gal = 93.33 mpg

Doing the math - 225 km / 5.716 l = 39.36 km per liter - 1 Gal us = 3.785 liters

So 39.36 km per liter x 3.785 liters = 148.99 km converted to miles = 148.99 x .621 = 92.5 miles per gallon

I'm astounded at the miles per gallon as the Yamaha specs list 78 mpg - only think I can think of is that all of the riding was done in minimal traffic along a river parkway and basically flat ground with me at 200 lbs as load.

Have any of you experienced these high figures???? Not complaining just curious - Man - what a bike!!!!!
